The clearest 3D and 4D images are usually captured between 22 and 26 weeks, though a clear picture also depends on your baby’s position and other factors on the day.

What is the difference between 3D and 4D?
A 3D ultrasound produces detailed, three-dimensional still images of your baby, while a 4D ultrasound adds the element of movement, allowing you to see your baby in real time. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy and the type of examination, your sonographer may capture both 2D and 3D/4D images during your appointment.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. All obstetric ultrasound examinations are performed by appointment to ensure sufficient time is allocated for your scan. Simply call our clinic or send through your referral via our appointment request form, and our friendly Booking Team will arrange a convenient appointment and provide any preparation instructions you may need before your visit.
Are there any costs?
Many obstetric ultrasound examinations are Medicare eligible; however, some specialised pregnancy scans may incur an out-of-pocket expense. Our Booking Team will advise you of any applicable fees when your appointment is booked, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
When will my results be available?
Your ultrasound images will be reviewed by one of our Specialist Radiologists, and a report is typically sent to your referring healthcare provider within 24 to 48 hours. If your examination is clinically urgent, it will be prioritised to ensure your doctor receives the results as quickly as possible.
