Bankstown Lidcombe Medical Imaging (BLMI) is bringing the latest technology to Bankstown through the installation of its new MRI scanner at their imaging centre within the Bankstown Hospital Specialist Centre.

The new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanner is the first of its kind to be installed in NSW as part of a $1.3 million project.
Weighing almost 5 tonne, the MRI magnet had to be lifted by cranes and installed into the bespoke built MRI Suite at BLMI in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

MRI can detect many abnormalities with incredible accuracy. It is especially effective in assessing the brain, spine, joints and soft tissue structures.
BLMI director Dr John Pereira says: “MRI has allowed major advances in the diagnosis of a significant number of conditions and is an important part of radiology services today.

“We know there are a small number of patients who find it difficult to have an MRI in a conventional, noisy machine. For these people, the latest Siemens MRI scanner with ‘Quiet Suite’, may be the solution.”

The revolutionary ‘Quiet Suite’ Technology from Siemens Healthcare, takes MRI noise from a rock concert to a whisper. A product of precise German engineering, Quiet Suite offers up to 97 per cent reduction in sound pressure for complete, quiet brain and joint exams, designed to be much less stressful.
“We look at the whole patient experience, such as design, speed and comfort of the technology, while making sure the resulting images will be of the highest quality,” Dr Pereira added.

BLMI is taking bookings now on 9790 0600.
