A FAST-TRACKING system for the diagnosis of lung cancer is set to revolutionise how symptoms of the disease are treated and improve the survival rates of Australia’s biggest killer.
Based outside Bankstown Hospital, privately-owned Bankstown Lidcombe Medical Imaging (BLMI) is the only sub-speciality medical imaging centre to partner with Bankstown and Liverpool hospitals in this new initiative which will see patients receive treatment in just days, as opposed to months waiting for an appointment with a lung specialist.
This innovative, streamlined service aligns with BLMI’s mission to bring next-gen imaging and advanced care to the Bankstown community and Sydney’s South West.
Dr Arnold Kang, BLMI’s Managing Radiologist said: “This is a Rapid Decision Prompt (RDP), offered in conjunction with a specialist who is a member of a lung multi-disciplinary team.
“This provides an escalation pathway that will expedite the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of lung cancer and we are extremely proud to be offering this to our patients and to our community.
“Lung cancer remains Australia’s biggest cancer killer and is expected to claim over 9,000 lives this year.
“Survival rates for this cancer type remain low at less than 14 percent – mainly because over two-thirds of those with the disease are diagnosed too late to be successfully treated.”
The Lung Cancer ‘Fast-Tracking Diagnosis and Treatment’ protocol is available now at Bankstown Lidcombe Medical Imaging.
Ask your GP for a referral to BLMI or contact BLMI for further info or to make a booking on 9790 0600 or email info@blmedicalimaging.com.au.
